Curently: a fighter is in HTH combat with a troll, his friend the elf stands back and fires a bow. Though the elf often misses the troll, he never accedently hits his friend.

Back in the pen and paper days I remember shooting a bow and if I missed there was a chance I could hit my friend, which I often did...

I know your working on so many complex things right now, but this has alwasy bugged me. Just an Idea.

I love it when that happens on Mythos, it is really possible most RP servers have something like that, it gets annoying but it is a good system.

I have also played on a arena server which had that I think I died more from archers haveing a contest then from HTH combat, it would be a great addition to rebirth.

Sounds ok, the chance of hitting an ally is present especially if you have a bunch in close quarters. Coordinating an attack with only a swordsman and a bowman is possible. It gets exceedingly more difficult if your friends swarm the baddy.
Technically the script would have to check how many are fighting the monster hand to hand, decide the chances of hitting an ally if you fail to hit your intended target and roll for who gets hit if the arrow hits one of your friends.
Not sure if it can be done...
