Me and a friend were talking to day. We both found it odd that lightning would be inside a building. It is kind of hard to RP to people why your lightning dosent start a buildling on fire. So then we got to thinking. Perhaps it could be changed to work like this.

When outside in clear sunny day Call Lightning does regular dmg
When outside in a strom with rain and lightning, its should do extra dmg.
When in a cave, it should do half dmg
Then when in a building or house or the sewers it would do no dmg.

What do you think?

This brings up another Idea. How come it was always raining back on the easter isle, then when I get to the mainland it never once rains? I miss dieing from a random lightning bolt. It never snows either.

Well technically, the REAL call lightnng does not work in ANY situtation of being inside. Not only that but it has a casting time of 10 minutes. If they were to edit it (which I think that they should) it should only work when they are outside, not only that, but it would be cool if it did a bit more damage while raining, or even full damage while raining and half while not.

Good idea.

Well see, in a cave the lightning could travel throgh cracks and droplets of water to get to its target. In a house made of wood all its going to do is burn things.

Woo Hoo! People agreeing with me cool.gif

In Pen and Paper Dnd 3rd ed you cannot call lightning inside. In fact you can only call it outside if it is cloudy.  Reply with quote

Ok fine, how about it cant be cast inside. It can be cast any time outside. However if its raining it gets a dmg boost, and if its snowing it gets a boost but slightly smaller since you dont normally see lightning when its snowing. Well, atleast I dont.
What about that?

Call Lightning is one of the spells that bioware "balanced" cause they couldn't figure out how to make it work as written.

Call Lightning
Evocation [Electricity]
Level: Drd 3
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 10 minutes, plus 1 action
per bolt called
Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Effect: See text
Duration: 10 minutes/level
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes
To cast call lightning, you must be in a stormy area—a rain shower, clouds and wind, hot and cloudy conditions, or even a tornado (including a whirlwind formed by a djinn or air elemental of 7 HD or more).
You are then able to evoke bolts of lightning as long as you remain in the
stormy area. (The spell ends if you leave the stormy area.) You can call down one bolt every 10 minutes. You need not call a bolt of lightning immediately—other actions, even spellcasting, can be performed. However, you must use a standard action (concentrating on the
spell) to call each bolt. A bolt causes 1d10 points of electrical damage per caster level (maximum 10d10).
The bolt of lightning flashes down in a vertical stroke at whatever target point you choose, within range (measured from your position at the time). The bolt takes the shortest possible unobstructed path between a nearby cloud and the target.
Any creature within a 10-foot radius of the path or the point where the lightning strikes is affected.
This spell can be used only outdoors. It does not function indoors, underground, or underwater.
