1=ranger who patrols forest prot. ppl
2=ranger who looks out for his own good
3=Ranger by the book

depends on wht u want to rp. Statisticaly #3 is best but #2 and #1 are more fun to roleplay......

if you ask me MAKE A DRUID icon_smile.gif

All 3 combos are a bit wrong, can't really tell you whats best unless you give us a character progression with feat/ability-points/skills etc.

However, for coolness and individuality the halberd is good (one of my fave weps), altho a total waste of your free light-armour DW.

I think a ranger RPing that he fights with a fork would be cool icon_twisted.gif
Not the most powerfull combo ever, but it would be fun if not funny in the least. icon_mrgreen.gif

Jase- trust me on this, you dont want him to be a druid icon_twisted.gif icon_mrgreen.gif msn-wink.gif

Ok you want progression chart.
Ok i plan to get dodge and mobility then wepon focos then improve crit and dont know past that.
Stats well 2 more str, 1 wis, 1 Con

Thats it i think

I think ill try out a Double Axe useing ranger just for fun.
2 short swrods seemed a bit weak but maybe it was just me.

I say a ranger needs to have mutliple weapon styles, they are jacks of all trades, they have a bit of magic, a bit of a fighter, a bit of a cleric, a lot of a druid.

I really suggest getting a lot of specialisation into the longbow, or any other bow for that matter, seeing rangers lack high defence, so they need to do a lot of damage early on. Also, its tradition icon_wink.gif

About their hand weapons, rangers get the dual wield feat not for nothing, try to utelise it, but try using this option when fighting hordes of light creatures, like kobolds. If you want to face a lone fire giant, you are better off wielding a shield and a sword. A helberd or any other 2 handed weapon with just 1 blade on it is a bad idea, seeing rangers lack defence. The best suggestion for a big weapon would be one of the dual bladed ones.

So in short, rangers need dual wield weapons or one of the exotics, a weapon to wield with a shield and of course a good bow to do as much damage in as little time as possible.

why 16 str and 16 dex...?
if you want to use both types (melee and missile) then you'd better stick to something that won't require so many feats (cuz you'll need them for bow feats)

Good Human Ranger stats, hmmm:

Dex should be highest, at the very least 15 (+5) at start (reflex saves, initiative rolls, skills, AC...). Also there are +4 dex bracers about. icon_biggrin.gif
Str and Wis should both be 14 at start (spells are both entertaining and functional).
Int at 12 is reasonalble (6 skil points per lvl).

Weapon Finesse is a must.

ranger with a double sword and imp dual wield can kick some ass if he has a high strength, if you wanna pimp out be a half orc and take 20 str 16 dex 16 con 12 wis or so, int and cha mean nothing on it, then at level 9 when you get the best duel wield feat, switch over to fighter, you'll cast bless and aid for extra ab and power lalalal maybe, whatever, just go with the "ranger by the book" thing is what i would recommend... its all good... or be a chaotic good drow elf ranger maybe.... (hehehehehe)
