when you roll a 20 in your attack roll then you always hit no matter what, doens't matter if your attacking a uber pimp chaos dragon or a goblin. a roll of a 20 is always a hit. that is also why the dark render lord is (was?:S) immune to harm since people could do harm till they scored a lucky twenty.
this is called a natural 20

I thought under 3e rules that a 20 wasn't always a sure thing anymore.
Or am I thinking of skills?

icon_redface.gif

heh....sorry guys, I twist the rules so much when I do PnP that I forget the REAL ONES sometimes. When I used to DM, 20 wasn't always *necessarily* a hit for *damage* - although something interesting would probably happen.

Anyways, I'm making my char to be Mr. Uber Parrier mostly just for fun. Like you said, dreamin', so I can make someone who wants to fight me get discouraged while I just laugh at 'em. But he will be using some Keen and/or high attack/damage weapons in each hand for the naughty critters, too. icon_biggrin.gif

it is true that a 20 does not mean a succes and a 1 not always failure for everything "apart" from attack rolls, it is indeed a bit confusing but apart from attack rolls 20's and 1's aren't really special.

In D&D rules, basically -if- you want, a 20 adds another +10 to the roll and a 1 takes 10 from it, if I remember right, it wasn't always a true hit/miss basis, it just added extra high stuff to ya rolls...

OK I'm gonna be a jerk and ask that this stays on topic (Parry kit). icon_razz.gif

BTW, does anyone know FOR SURE if Improved Parry effects the Parry skill itself or the riposte attack? I was kinda guessing, based on what the desciption says, but some dude on the NWN official forums tells me that it increases the actual Parry skill.

That's second edition Dreamin' get upto speed there buddy, if you read it later on then it will explain it more, maybe I emntioned house rules, maybe not, but 1 is not always a natural miss and 20 is not always a natural hit, try reading the forgotten realms DEITY BOOK, it explains alot about that... "Faiths and Pantheons".

A specialized fighter kit would be cool, like +1 attack bonus and damage at level 1, +2 at 5 +3 at 10 +4 at 15 and +5 at 20. They should be able to do special moves with their weapons, for instance a big axe or scythe should be able to hit two people in one swing, and a light weapon should be able to disarm someone's shield instead of their weapon. Also blundgeion weapon should have a chance of doing a concussion blow which would do -5 to int or something and dazed for 1 or 2 rounds. At level 20 they should learn a finishing move. -5 attack bonus, make reflex save or instantely die. Dc is highest attack bonus. That'd be cool =P
Just some stuff that I came up with when Iwas bored

Rangers have racial enemy not specialized weapon, and vorpal almost never works unless the dc is high, which makes the level req of the weapon like level 40 or so. But yes Sap Cleave and Disarm would be necessary for this kit, ah well I was just rambling emot-yum.gif

Sap was removed in a long ago patch, know why? Here is why:

A level 1 monk could kill a level 20 mage if he had no mind immune

*sap* no way to resist, stunned for 18 seconds.
*hit hit hit hit* *kill*

It was way over powered, even bioware realized it, so they removed it.
