I'v never tried to multi class before and wanted to know if all it is is haveing 2 classes in 1 or if there is anything special to it. Like do i get there combined hit die or skill points? I was just asking since in the exspansion there are those prestige classes which are like multi-classing.

in multiclassing the levels stack one on top of the other. for instance, If i was a 10th level Barbarian, and I decided I'd take a level of rogue I'd get 1d6 Hp, 8+int modifier Skill points, and whatever the hell bonuses are given to rogues at 1st level. my character would count as 11th level, due to me having 10 levels of barbarian and 1 level of rogue. In addition, I'd get a 20% exp. penalty unless I was Human, Half elf, Half orc or Halfling (humans or "Half" races) due to multiclassing penalties.
this simplifies the exp, leveling and Class system of 3rd edition much mroe than 2nd edition. it's nice, simple, easy to use, and reasonably fair.

Falcan, there are a myriad of different ways to Multiclass, and the benefits/penalties that can happen. Maybe if you explained what you were thinking about doing, those of us with lots of experience with this could give you more specific advice. Especially because going with 3 classes instead of just 2 is fun, too, but even *more* complicated. At first, at least. You'll get used to it the more you do it. Almost all my characters are at least dual-classed these days (although I think Kindo would kick my arse for some of my combos).

Also keep in mind that one cool thing about Prestige classes is, although you can never have more than 3 classes *including* them, they do not count at *all* for the XP penalty.

So what are you thinking about? Monk/Fighter? Cleric/Paladin? Ranger/Wizard/Arcane Archer?

actually thats not quite correct. Only human and half-elf's get their main class not counted for multi-class penalty. A half-orc gets any barabarin levels not counted, and halflings any rouge levels.

This information is covered in the manual, I suggest you read it carefully before trying a multiclass char, and plan what you wnat...then you will be able not to suffer the penaltyfor xp's. Fro example a lv 10/10 char taking alternating lv's of each class won't suffer a penalty. That 20% penalty really slows down high level progression.

If you wanted to know what i was thinking of doing.....

I was thinking of trying a Ranger and Shodow Dancer either 10/10 or 15/5, Human, or a Rouge/Shadow Dancer (maybe assasain) as a halfling and 10/10 each. Open to any advise about good and bad for those 2.
