I want to tell everyone that there are really only two great brews in the world ... Guinness Extra Stout and Hoegaarden Wit. If I only had these two to drink, I'd be fine.

I have decided, after much consideration, that I need to pick a favorite football team (and I mean 'soccer' here). It's all in the name of trying to be a bit more Euro-friendly and such. I could have cheesed and just picked Manchester United, because hey ... that's like rooting for the NY Yankees, they always are in contention and always seem to be good. But when it comes to baseball I like the Red Sox, and thus for football, I am putting myself down for Glasgow Celtic.

I have also taken to listening to the BBC on local radio here ... PBS, which I normally can't stand, does provide the one saving grace of BBC news for 4 hours starting around 11pm GMT. Gives me something different to listen to when I am hitting the sack and trying to get to sleep. Think the show is called "World View and Report" or some such.

Conrad have you ever tried any dopplebock's? Or the newer "triple"-bocks? I'll get you some brand names to try if you'd like - or just check out your local "specialty" brew store (the best IMO are usually German - the beers I mean, not the stores).

Hoegaarden is Belgian ... and it's wonderful ... tho unlike Nefi, around here we put a slice of orange into it, rather than lemon. Nothing will take the place of Guinness as my fave of all time, but Hoegaarden is a great summertime brew ...drinking Guinness when it's 90 degrees out is a bit much for most people.

Conrad, you should trace your scottish ancestry back to location (even if it is glasgow, where in glasgow is important), you really don't want to be a tim, trust me.

Also anyone that knows anything about scottish football should try and find "Only an Excuse" episodes, dead funny.

Guinness is my fave winter beer, its almost a damn meal in itself (it lacks salt which can be supplied via peanuts or pretzels). But alas, unless there is snow on the ground, I am most likely drinking Budweiser or Busch (im on a budget and I drink a lot of beer). If money were not an issue then I would probably drink more of:

1. Amber Bock
2. Dos Equis
3. St Pauli Girl Dark
4. St Pauli Girl
5. Columbus Brewing Company (anythong they make is good)

Best I have been able to tell thus far, Uin, is that everything seems to point to Lachope.  Reply with quote

I'll have look at that for you later onrad. On another note, if you want to be Euro-Friendly by supporting a football team, then you generally don't want to support an english one. England supports are the ones that start all the pitch invasions and violence.

In a stark comparison, Glasgow Celtic fans that went to Seville for one of last seasons European trophies were commended for their conduct, and received an award themselves. icon_cool.gif

But the thing about Scottish football, is there are only ever two teams that stand a chance of winning anything. If you like monopolies, you'll love the Scottish league.

I happen to be one of those monopolistic power mongers ... I've been called such and I am proud to say it's true. icon_smile.gif
