This is mostly discussed already in the Offical Announcements here: http://dyso.joelpt.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1312&start=20

...But I'm wanting to expand on what Elwin said, especially for the awesomeness of Rebirth. I think that if you guys (Gorb, Bri, Gesh, Fooz) could lay out for all of us what hardware you think there needs to be for Dyso to run smoothly, that would help with donations. What I mean is, if you posted that there needs to be like another gig of RAM, 2 P4 2.4GHz chips, and a new dual-processor mainboard, and had the (at least estimated) prices attached, then we'd all have a goal to shoot for. Kind of like when a business has a blood drive with a big picture-poster of a thermometer showing how close to their blood goal they are!

Just a thought to stimulate donations.....any others?

It'll run on what we have now....but as far as what is being looked at for upgrades, you'll want o talk to Bri and Gorb. Comments you two?  Reply with quote

Bri and I were actually discussing this yesterday. What we'd like to do is set up a "Red Cross" graph if you will. Have a graph that shows the amount of funds currently available, and what is needed for x (x being the next component(s) to be upgraded.) We also talked about setting some timelines on upgrades. So say we have $Y by z(date) then we get x... if not then we get xx. I need to get together a list of items (whether it be software or hardware) that need to be addressed and some prices and post them someplace.

Heh, can't tell I'm a math geek can you. icon_wink.gif

That would be excellent! I like the date idea especially if you combine that with an anouncement of what is about to be purchased. That way, if you guys want, others of us could browse around for good prices, too. The more people we have crawling about the Web looking for the best deal, the better chance we have of finding it.....

I completely agree here. I am a computer consultant by trade. I can get some good deals on equipment. I may be able to find things you need at good prices. If I get the specs for what you want I can check it out for you.

I also like the idea of telling everyone how much it will be and how much you've gotten so far. People are more likely to give if they know how much is needed and where the money is going.
