pls edit to cleric, lol, somehow that mispelling disturbs me.. 10+spell level is the wisdom need to cast a spell
you get bonus spells for having extra wisdom however.

Go for starting:
16 Strength
8 Dex
14 Const
17 Wis
9 Int
8 Char

That makes for the best Cleric....not very charismatic or dexterous, but you can throw 2 skill points into wisdom before you reach level 20 and have your level 9 spells, and you will still be a decent fighter. icon_wink.gif

Ouch! That build only gives you 1 skill point per level (2 for humans.) I'd drop the STR down to 14 and put at least 12 in INT and 10 in CHA.  Reply with quote

I concur, unless you want a char that can only just speak properly and has no friends. And judging by the current Nel, I wouldn't say so.

I may be wrong but isn't selune a deity of beauty or something similar, cha would be nice.

If you want to be uber cool, check up Selune in Faith & Pantheons. You can learn which domains you should have and such. Read some things about the Dogma, how a cleric of Selune should act in diferent situations etc etc. In short, you will have more in-depth roleplay. I did that for Ameli and her deity Ilmater. I sure as hell could enjoy playing her more after that atleast.

hehe.. I was going to pull rank over another cleric of Kossuth (thats a common thing among that priesthood) but I stupidly asked him if he was local or if he was an ordained priest, and curses, he answered local.

I also have a question pertaining to clerics, but, more along the lines of RP.

I know that cleric gain there spell casting ablilties though there diety: ie divine magics.

However, is it legitmate to dislike/hate the god that gives you power?

In the case of Marcus, he is openly opposed to the gods at times, and often times doubts there true intentions and worth.

He is granted magic by the graces of Selune, goddes of the moon and happyness.
She is giving him these abilites because of his dire need to help people in a more tangiable way, that is, more-so than he could as a monk.

So, is this good roleplay on my part, or, am I breaking some strick goodie-goodie cleric role ?

Im trying to make Marcus more than average. Enganing others in theological debats and so on.

Feed back please.

You have to pray to recieve power.
You could pretend to be an Ur-Priest, which is a prestiege class from Book of Vile Darkness. They steal thier power from the gods, and are pretty much obsessed with deicide.

Note that you wouldn't get the cool ur-priest abilities like stealing magic from other people. So you'd be like.. a psudo-Ur-Priest or something.

Forgive me for induging my inner Min/Max power gamer.

Here's my limited advice on building a Cleric.

Why you might not want to start with near max wisdom for a Cleric.

You need 19 Wisdom to use level 9 spells. You won't need to worry about this till you are level 17.

You will get 5 points to spend on your cleric after character creation. Unlike the points you get at character creation each of these points raises an ability up one point even if they are more than 14.

So, Consider starting with less wisdom and more str dex etc. and using y our post creation points to raise your ability scores.

Question: What skills do you guys find useful. I invest in Concentration and Spellcraft. What other skills do you find useful?

Coral Reef.

That's about it for a cleric. You can't raise Discipline or Spot to decent levels because they're cross-class, unless you cheat and save up your points for a different class at level 20.

These are my cleric abilities : Str 14, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 12. I always start with a 15 for wisdom when I play a cleric. If you use every ability increase for wisdom, you'll end with a 20 which is pretty nice.

I would definately not recommend starting with a 17 or 18 for wisdom.. A cleric is more than just spells so ignoring other ability scores just to make your save DC a bit higher isn't worth it. Many of the spells like healing spells or boost spells don't have a DC anyway, so starting with a 15 is perfect.

Will, Your abilities look great,

What feats do you guys like to use,

In my last character I tried to do 3 things , melee, spells and missle (bow)

This character I plan on specializing in spells.

I was planning on getting mainly spell related feats, Max spell, empower spell, combat casting, spell focus, maybe toughness?

But lately I think this may be a mistake,

Why?

Most of the spells that clerics use can be had from potions, books and scrolls.

Ideas? Comments?

When I made Tomar Kelfton....he started with a 13 str, 9 dex, 14con, 12 int, 16 wis, and 12 cha.

I have added to his wis so its 17 now....but he can fight pretty good with divine power and other spells like that.

most of his skills are in concentrate and healing with some in spellcraft and parry....i am switching off with the extra pt from int of 12 between spellcraft and parry.

his deity is also Selune...Goddess of moon, stars and navigation seekers.
for role playing I play as if all gods and goddess are false except for Selune. anyone who says there gods do this...I tell them it is thru the power of Selune that their "false god" can do these things.

I will do more/better rping when I learn more about the Goddess of Selune...anyone can help with info on her?

by the way most of my feats are fighting skills...as my cleric uses a long sword....but I just wanted some what of a war cleric more than anything else...so healing isn't one of my domains icon_smile.gif

DarkJetta,

Your abilities look fine, I'd put your additional points into Wis.

I'd put my skills into concentrate, spell craft and heal. Most people here don't think parry is any good because you can't use it with Armor and shield sucessfully and it can only parry 3 attacks.

Don't sweat over not taking the healing domain. Empowered healing isn't that great an advantage.

Actually it is. Unless you can make up a brilliant story for it. Taking one level of anything for feats is just laming, in most cases. Not all of them, mind you. But most.

DarkJetta,

I'm not sure what else to put skill points into.

I put some into Lore for the identify.

I don't think parrying bolts and arrows is all that useful.

I recommend you put all of your remaining points into wisdom.

It would help if you could tell us more about your character concept.

Comments?

Can someone tell me more about the god Tempus? I'm playing a Cleric of tempus but I know little about him (shame).

AHem, http://www.phonon.net or http://www.planetadnd.com
Both of those sites have loads of (A)DnD books stowed away on their site.

But let me say what I know about Tempus:
Tempus is the god of battle, he does NOT support starting wars, but when war comes, he does do battle. Basically, you're a fighting guy.
But look at a topic by Cherrn in suggestions or chatter for a load of info on almost every deity.

Here's what I've been able to find out about Tempus.

Does this fit with the game world?

Tempus- "God of Strife & Fire" "Loki"-Symbol: A Flaming Hammer.
Tempus is the god of war, blood-lust, and trickery. Tempus is also a god of luck and creativity in his blacksmithing aspect. All followers of Tempus have a great respect for blacksmiths, and are forbidden to cause them harm. Priests of Tempus defer to skilled blacksmiths. Blacksmiths are often devotees of Tempus and mark their shops with his symbol. Clerics of Tempus consider blacksmith shops holy paces. There are several temples set up for him and the established militant order called the Tempus Knights headquartered in Dun Uisnech. The Tempus Knights have a long and bitter rivalry with the Order of Sif and the Knights of the Horn, there is often political maneuvering and bloodshed between the orders. The order of Tempus Knights hold a somewhat different view of the afterlife than other Danrae, that any enemy defeated in honorable battle will become their servant in Valhalla. Tempus' sphere of influence is Fire, Blood-lust, Strife, and Blacksmithing, his colors are red and black, and his animals are the raven and the ox. Priests of Tempus are expected to wear leather vests and make burnt offerings as sacrifice.

Clerics of Tempus have access to the following domains:

War (Battle Axe)
Trickery
Fire
Destruction
Priests of Tempus have the following abilities/restrictions:

Bonus Smite Feat
+2 Bonus to Craft Skills of Blacksmithing or Weaponsmithing.
