heh, I think shouts shouldn't be banned but someone should just stop shouting if someone else asks it in a tell, and please do it in a tell not in a shout... icon_wink.gif And mostly there are moderators around anyway....

Dont ban something beautiful! I want to shout I fell in love with my badger-familiar-bug

Hey, why don't we ban talking, too! If someone wants to communicate, they'll have to spell it out by Riverdancing!

Seriously, are shouts really that much of a problem? It gets annoying when it's overused, but otherwise let it go people.

First of all banning shouts all together is really stupid, Shouting to sell things is NECESSARY. If someone gets annoyed because someone said they have a greater brawlers belt for sale in eleriina market place, if that interupts someone's rp experience, then no offense to anyone but they have something crawling up their icon_ignore.gif . One might say its not realistic for a shout to be heard by everyone, such things arent possible in real life. Let me tell you some other things that arent possible in real life that are part of D&D and NWN, dying and coming back, spells, wizards, clerics, multiple dieties, wearing armor around town unless your a guard or something, everyones history making them some sort of remarkable super hero...the list could go on and on.

Shouting to sell something is perfectly acceptable, if you need to sell something let everyone no about it. If it gets obnoxious such as people spamming or making the announcement every 5 minutes or something, THEN u intervene.

The debate over shouting ended along time ago, if yellow letters appearing on the screen every once and a while bug u people so much then just hit "H" on ur keyboard.

And that according to you not the server or the server admin.

The glitch in your argumentation is that shouting is not only not realistic in RL, but it's also not realistic in the D&D universe. icon_cool.gif

About Falkhor comment on the joy of DM's listining in on party chat. I remember when in party chat saying something like "yes the DM's do have a sence of humor, sometimes all I have to do is say the word dragon and they get an urge, and instantly Conrad responded by ROFL which I promply did. icon_mrgreen.gif
I apprecaite a good sence of humor, and DM's must have a nice bag of tricks.

Back to topic, It would be wonderfull to completly remove shouts, even party chat.
Anything that helps move RP along I'm all for it. I'm glad rules are being developed for things like shouts, just hope that those who are causing problem actually read the posts.

hey... i got lost on my own thread =P

if shouts are gone, how are we supposed to avertise our sales? messengers? towncriers?? little compromising notes slipped under blooming cherry trees? *is confused*

and yes, i only remember the part about ABUSING shouts in the eula. they were built into the game for a reason i think. other games have their own trading system set up in a way that you can advertise your sales, nwn does not. it would be nice if there was a proper way to do it [if there is, i don't know how, and since i've seen so many other people advertising through shouts, i know i'm not alone in this]

one way around it though, would probably be sending the same message to every player on the list lol -- copy-paste works wonders you know? *winks*

but seriously, i'm sad about this, because shouts being gone means 'they' have won =/

*waves hello to ogt*
i think i've seen you around.... you have an easy to remember name.

Check out the bulletin boards in south coast temple and near the eleriina portal. Also there are players acting as merchants whom you can sell your items to iorder to have them sold off to other players. If shouts make you more creative in interacting with other players in order to get what you want I'd say it's a good thing. personally i hope Bioware will introduce a patch that includes the ability to turn off tells and party chat as well, forcing you to stick together or actually running all over the isle trying to find the person you want instead.
A messenger you could hire to bring a message to another player would then replace the tell mode. It's scriptable and i wanted to do something like that for my mod anyway. Kind of like a single-message-walking-bulletin board.

okies, found the bulletin board and tried leaving there a message -- yep, that'll do, that'll do :]

thanks.

i don't think turning off party chat would be good though O_o
i find it very useful.
sure, it would be more realistic, but sometimes, you know, people forget that games aren't and perhaps shouldn't be 100% realistic. imo anyways. some games are ruined by trying to stick to reality too much...

messengers on the other hand could be cool. but if there was like... a msger guild with actual players getting hired to run around delivering msgs and making errands. they'd still get xp from their travels plus a little money on the side. sounds good to me :]

although, low level players would be a bit limited since there are areas that are off-limits to them... O_o

[hmm.... maybe there's already something similar in dyso?]

They ban partry chat on Anphillia, builds up great tension in battle, you can only see if a person is fighting or not. You have no idea what run into when you make it there as backup.

Yea but uin makes a good point though. As DM i often see people calling their friends to an area when they need help. In pvp wars that is just screwed cause everyone swarms to the same area. Send out a messenger, gather your troops, move as a legion onward to your enemy, that sounds to me like far more fun and again would make it far more necesarry for a party to stick together for protection in numbers.
