It would be nice if I could delete some of my characters. Some are failed ones and I want to use the same name, but can't.  Reply with quote

just PM Conrad. He loves destroying everything people work for, so he'll be glad to delete your charcger. (j/k conrad, you know you only like limited destruction)

also, brianm wil do it, but if you give him any more work he'll pop, then I'd be forced to team up with Solo Core and kill you, so... yeah...

I can delete bics for people if needed ... I simply ask that you send me a PM with your gamespy name and the charname to be deleted. With everything else going on, this is a low priority issue ... but I try to get to it as soon as I can.

And let it be noted that an in-game character deleter has been discussed. Not been built yet though.  Reply with quote

Ingame character deleter would be nice, it would save the admins some work, not like it takes more than 5 minutes to delete a char from SV for an admin anyway though.

I still distrust this... because of what happens when there are errors...

actually, several module have one already, when you die and go to the fugue plane or whatever (afterlife basically) it has a beam of light or Ao the overlord and they both ask, do you wish for your soul to be permanently destroyed? and what it does if you answer yes, it flags the character to be deleted next module reset/crash, it's very sweet.

There is also one that if you create the character with the same name, the NEW one gets saved and the old one deleted. That would be nice too.  Reply with quote

Actually I believe if you make a new char with the exact same name it overwrites your old character on just about any server.

So why don't more people do this?!

I'll tell you why ... if they do that then they have a harder time muleing the items from the old character over to the new one.

Ah, my mistake then ... perhaps in the dyso case it refuses to over-write. Bah.  Reply with quote

Never tried it anywhere else but on dyso you have to have a different name for every char you make.  Reply with quote

This is one of the goofy things about NWN. When you create a character with the same name, it doesn't overwrite the other. It just creates a new .bic file with a 1,2,3,etc as the last character for the PC name (ie - gorbguy.bic, gorbgu1.bic.) Kinda sucks really. I just had to go through that yesterday when I ended up with a corrupted character after a server crash.

yes, server vault is screwy in the least, in LV if you do that with the same names it will make like "(1) (2)" ect on the characters, why the heck wont this do it in SV???!

It's not a really good idea to make a new char with the same name... sometimes you run into various problems of different degrees of seriousness...

For example, the new character won't get his/her starting gold, sometimes you'll start in the wrong place (like wherever you logged the original character off), or in the worst cases, what Solo_Core said would happen (your new char doesn't get saved and the next time you play, the original character is still there... with no trace of the new one).

I did this once and ended up wasting a few hours of work when my new character disappeared. You might have better luck, but you should at least know the risks icon_smile.gif
