Does the merchant sell only on certain days or only when DM decides to let em?

Last Gloth event I totally missed because I had to go to Manchester to a wedding, so I missed out on that. I've seen a few of the items in circulation and was even able to attain some of them, but it cost me a hell of alot more than it did at Gloth hehe.

Anyway, I just want to know if I can get the chance to..

Actually I think I remember them saying something about taking the shop out because they didn't want uber powerful things floating around... if I remember Gesh talking right, he said that you couldn't actually 'buy' anything that is higher than a +3. If you want something that they originally sold, you will have to get it from a DM after doing a quest or something....

Yeh, I saw that post about taking it out but lately I've seen several players selling rare items. I've got a few in my possession at the moment.  Reply with quote

The gloth shop is never open.

What does happen is that every few weeks I will take an assortment of "gloth" items (usually in the level 14-17 range) and put them for sale in one of the normal shops around the realm. There is only one of each type of whatever items I pick, the items picked are up to me ... and it's not always the same thing and rarely will you see the stuff that is level 18-20. If you get there late, someone may have already picked up the item you would have purchased ... that's the way it goes.

Why do I do this? Folks like having some better and more flavorful gear ... and it also stimulates more trading and economic stuff as some folks will buy some items and then sell them to those who they know would die for it, etc. It also gives folks a place to legitimately spend some of the money they otherwise horde for no real reason ... and it makes for an amusing scene at Boim when there are 11-13 people in line trying to cash their gems in.

There won't be another one for a couple weeks at least as the last two were closer together than I normally would do.

I have mixed emotions about making this request; so take it with a grain of salt.

Would it be possible to have a store that has all the higher level items available but at a high enough price that no one could concievably buy them? The reason I ask is that if for example there is a realy usefull kama in existence that I don't know about I would have a hard time posting a "I am interested in buying xyz" message on the bboard. I suppose I could put a general "Interested in buying powerfull kamas" on the board; but I sometimes feel I am at somewhat of a disadvantage when it comes to saving up for that unknown item vs. people that actualy got to shop in gloth and already know what they are hankering for. Plus it is much harder to post a general "Interested in buying powerful necklaces, rings, etc" because they are simpy too varied.

I don't think a 'specific' time should be given when the shop opens... everyone will be waiting- there won't be much excitement to it. It would be nice if we could get warning like- "Shop opening this week" but nothing too specific. I wouldn't want to wait in the cold for 10 hours... I like it spontaneous- makes for half the excitement icon_wink.gif

Well, what I would do is something along those lines, your way everyone will be at Gloth every day, we can't have that.

So you say, the day in which it will open but not the time (though it would probably have to be open twice, for USA and another time for Europeans)

I mean yeh, it's better than rushing past everyone trying to get first look... But it's also gonna be crowded that everyones there waiting.

In fact, I wouldn't even hold it in Gloth. I'd make it a surprise and say it won't be in Gloth, the trader will be elsewhere. Then put him in some remote back alley and people must find him themselves. Such as lost woods, dwarven mines, shadow run etc.

It has never been in Gloth- its mostly spread out. Conrad's little tactic involves mentioning the name of the merchant- but not his location. icon_cool.gif

I don't think that there should be a shop like that. I mean, think of it like this.... On the original 3.x when the XP system hadn't been modified, it was SO CONCIEVABLY HARD to get to level 20... actually, nobody did it until like... a month ago which is NUTS because it takes FOOOOOOREEEEEVVVVVERRRRR to do it. Only the craziest of all people will sit there and hak and slash away all day... well the same thing would happen with the money, except it would only piss other players off because then it would be rushed even MORE than it was already in 2.x dyso.... so... like I said, I really don't think that they should do that.

Because no one responded to it icon_smile.gif .. which in and of itself is fine, but someone who might want to respond to it might miss it because it is burried behind a few, only partialy realted, posts. icon_razz.gif Granted my post was mostly off topic to begin with.

Now I'm almost gaurenteed that people will see your post asking why I double posted, and they will go back and read one of them to see what I was double posting about. icon_lol.gif

Well, you have to admit.. The majority of Halflings are pickpockets, whether you think/know that IC or OOC the thought is still in the back of everyones minds..

So whenever I see a Halfling approach me I back off icon_mrgreen.gif

anyway, the way Conrad do with the shop has worked well, just suddenly shout out the name of merchant when the time is there. But everytime this has happen is when its in the middle of night where i live...so if he could varie the time more when he puts up the shop and not only a sertant time, it would be nice and fair to everyone.
