How about a quest that involves the Bugbears? Seeing how once you've got an attack of +5 and a regular Swordsmen's belt you can just hit the Crypt, there's currently not much reason to go beyond the Bugbears that are in the cave.

I'm thinking that the Chieftain should only spawn way up on top of that mountain, and carry some item with him that you need to return to someone at the Inn or a farmer.

or how about the bugbears at the top of the mountain have waylaid some poor farmer/farmer's daughter and they need an escort back to the village every once in a while?

I dunno how to handle resetting / repeating the quest, but I imagine something with the fella/lady spawning inside the house every 2nd game day or whatever seems reasonable.

How about - a bugbear kidnaps a child, and you must rescue the child in order to get another 5000 gp for equipment? Like the Cain quest in D2.  Reply with quote

Here's an idea...

An evil priest occurs in the Crypt, saying it needs more souls and offers the players untold power/riches in return for bugbear heads.

On the other side, the bugbear chieftan gets concerned about all the losses to its clan and offers a prize for taking down the evil priest.

Meanwhile, at the trading post, a Gnome guard ponders if there's a way to finally seal off the tomb and the cave, since all the bugbear-undead strife only attracts trouble and more trouble.

That reminds me of a quest in Planescape, except one side was good, one was evil and one was neutral. Which may be good because its the beginning and would be a reaffirment of a persons alignment (perhaps you can add/change alignment depending on what they choose)

You could also pit them against each other, ie: persuade them to attack each other then kill the survivor.. Doubt thats possible here.

In my case, I killed the Good side, gave their head to the neutral side, killed the neutral side, gave their head to the evil side and killed the evil side for experience =P Which would probably give me chaotic evil here icon_biggrin.gif

Yep, your thoughts were what I had in mind, especially with regards to having the sides pitted against one another and the alignment points. Good call!
